Ive always known my child is very smart. He is a warehouse of knowledge. He is a great problem solver and understands lots of things way beyond his age level. However when it comes to school he is behind and just seems to have given up on him self. I am not sure if he [...]

Learning is the natural state/process of a child and anything with interferes with that learning is something we need to clear up. Medications for children with most Developmental Disorders are designed to stop the child’s symptoms. But, they do not address the basic problem: the child’s developmental process is stuck and needs to be re-engaged. [...]

As I read the article the one thing that it brought to my mind is all of the times that I was told that I should put my children on medication. My reply was “So your telling me that medication is going to make them perfect students?” I have always known that meds weren’t the [...]

Bill, thanks for this great comment. I’ve been considering this concept and maybe it’s time for me to write about it. I’ll try to get an article posted about this in the next few weeks (I’m really busy with a different project right now). ====================== Here is the short answer: Developmental Disorders all have that [...]

It’s not just that the concern is expressed in the present tense and extrapolated into the future, it’s also that the word “development” can imply early childhood, which may be long past for the person in question.
The concern is (for some, anyway) that if they didn’t develop properly back then, they certainly can’t now.

Keith: Our site is named, “Back On Track.” I chose that name instead of something like, “Continuing With ADHD” or some other name which indicates that the developmental problem continues and the person continues needing support. I wanted a name which indicated that the problem stops and does not continue. I had hoped that “Back On [...]

Mr. Bailey, I appreciate the lengthy time and content to your email. And if my points were less clear to you and or off target given the mission of this group, perhaps I can clarify a few of them at this point. As well, I truly don’t remember seeing such detail about what the group [...]

Keith: I know that your ideas are a very responsible representation of the current “scientific” paradigm about ADHD. But, we are offering a new kind of paradigm here on this site. On this site we are not writing about “managing” or “thriving with” ADHD. We don’t offer a “world of difference” for those who will [...]

Through years of working with families impacted by ADHD, I’ve seen large disparities between the philosophies and treatments of professionals supporting the ADHD community. HAVE friends and or colleagues shared their diverse experiences with medical and psychological supports in the community? ADHD and its related challenges are treatable and can at times be completely managed [...]

Estela: 1) Autism and Asperger’s are different diagnoses within a set of Developmental Disorders called Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD). The diagnostic criteria are “officially” defined in the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual (currently the DSM version IV). This is where psychologists and psychiatrists would look to find the specific symptom set to precisely diagnose whether a child is [...]

There is no cure. That is certainly a depressing thought. I know that medical and psychological professionals have tried to keep parents hopes elevated, but how can that be effective when their basic frame is that there is no cure? I hope that we can provide a ray of hope about what your child needs to [...]
